He rescued her.

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us! That we should be called the children of God, and that is what we are.” 1 John 3:1

As I read those words recently, I remembered a conversation with a teen mom who recently attended Parent Life. Rachel has two daughters: Mila is three; Jayla is three weeks. Rachel spent most of Mila’s life in the Juvenile Detention Center, where she nearly lost all her parental rights. But as she served her time, she began to call out to God. She asked Him to help her make the right decision for her daughter: to parent or to place for adoption. Rachel labored over the decision in prayer, and told God, “I am willing to do whatever you want me to do. I give her to you.” Within a couple of weeks, she was released, regained custody of Mila, and was on the road to a bright future.

After another series of bad decisions, Rachel found herself pregnant, in an abusive relationship, and at risk of losing Mila again. She said, “I know the enemy knew my weakness, that I was scared to be alone. I was weak.” But all along, Rachel knew God was with her. She prayed to Him, asked for help, and He rescued her from the hands of her abuser.

God rescues each one of us, if we only ask him to.
